There are big differences between our preliminary task and our main final film opening. Our Preliminary task was a short film which means it had to include a start, middle and end, including a peak in events. Whereas our Film Opening was the opening of a film and therefore was not meant to give too much of the storyline away. We also had to include suitable film titles in our film opening and we did a lot of research on the way titles run in order to do this. Whereas we didn't have to do this when creating our preliminary task. Overall I felt a lot more confident about starting our film opening than our preliminary task. This was because we were preparing and planning our filming and making our media product a lot longer than our preliminary task which therefore made us all feel prepared and ready to go.
The first shot it of our main title on our Final Film opening. The second is from our Preliminary task. The preliminary task titles was at the beginning of our work which after some research we found out that the Main title should come after he titles of the Main actors/actresses. When creating our Final Product we took this into consideration and ensured that our main title came after some scenes and after our main actress and actor. We feel that our main title on our Final opening is more professional as we decided 'less is more' and kept it simple with a font that we felt represented our genre without being too much. We also only chose one font and didn't use a transition/effect as we felt it looked more professional without.
We did a lot of research before filming our film opening. We started by analysing film openings this helped us to understand what to include in our film opening and what was typical aspects of film openings. We also looked at titles in film openings to help us understand the typical order titles went in so when we could apply this when we made our film. We took out audience questionnaires to help us understand what our target audience is looking for in films. We also looked at existing films with similar plots or the same genre and looked at the audience and the audience figures which helped us to understand the audience more.
We feel all round a lot more confident. We were able to stick to the 180 degree rule and found match on action a lot easier. This is shows as during our preliminary task it took us aged to work on out match on action but during the editing for this we were a lot quicker. We were a lot more confident with the framing and shots of our film opening and this will help with a more professional finish.
The equipment no longer scares us. We are all able to use the equipment and feel confident in doing so in compare to the start of the course where we would struggle to turn one on.
We find it easier setting up the tripod and dolly and using the camera itself. We have also grown more confident in the use of IMovie and have discovered new editing techniques during this experience.
Overall I am very pleased with the Opening 2 Minutes of THAT STALKED YEAR. I feel the hard work that went into it was worth it and also enjoyable to do. We were able to enjoy editing a lot more with our final piece as we knew how to edit this time round. I feel happy with our final piece and despite me still wanting to continue to improve it i feel it does look like a film opening which is due to the research we did.
